Game Recap #1. Angels 5, Mariners 4

Ah, there’s nothing better than the first game of the season – ok, maybe there is – actually winning the game!

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, yes, the name is official, picked up their first win of the season on Monday against the Seattle Mariners. A clutch 2 out hit by the Halos shortstop, Orlando Cabrera, put the Angels ahead by 2 runs in the top of the 9th inning to break the tie.

On the mound for the Angels was last year’s Cy Young Award winner, Bartolo Colon. Colon pitched 5 innings giving up three earned runs on 8 hits. Colon would end up with a no decision.

Vladimir Guerrero hit his first homerun of the season in the top of the first inning with one man on, giving the Angels and Colon the early lead.

The bullpen replaced Colon after 5 innings allowing only one run. Scot Shields picked up the win as Francisco Rodriguez collected the save.

Player of the game: Orlando Cabrera – going 3-5 with 1 run scored, 2 RBI, and a stolen base.

Disappointment – Garret Anderson – going 0-5 with 3 K’s

Next game: April 4th, Tuesday vs. Seattle Mariners

On the mound: John Lackey vs. Joel Piniero

Angels record: 1-0
