Game Recap #3. Angels 4, Mariners 6
Jeff Weaver got roughed up a bit in his debut as an Angel. Weaver gave up five runs in 6.1 innings rising his ERA to 7.11. Jarrod Washburn, former Angel, got the start for the Mariners. He pitched excellent striking out seven in seven and allowing only two runs.
The Halo's offense did solid again, hitting two more homeruns today. Tim Salmon got the start at DH and hit his second bomb of the season, both solo shots. Orlando Cabrera did his best to keep the Angels in the game by hitting a homerun with Chone Figgins on base. His first homerun of the season.
Rookie Jeff Mathis got the first start of his young career at catcher. Defensively, he allowed one stolen base and caught Joe Borchard trying to steal. Offensively, he went 1 for 4 batting 9th in the lineup.
The Angels ended up losing the series 2-1 to the Seattle Mariners. On Friday, the halos will return to Anaheim for their home opener against the New York Yankees. In the 3-game series, the Angels will face starting pitchers, Shawn Chacon, Jaret Wright, and Randy Johnson. The newest addition for the Bronx bombers is Johnny Damon who will make that lineup even more difficult to give out. It's really unfair how good their offense is going to be this season.
Player of the game: Tim Salmon - The King fish went yard again! Timmy went 2 for 4, with a double, and a solo homerun.
Disappointment - Jeff Weaver - giving up 5 runs in 6.1 innings pitched. This is the third consecutive poor start for the Angels.
Next game: April 7th, Friday vs. New York Yankees
On the mound: Kelvim Escobar vs. Shawn Chacon
