Cardinals Bench Comes Up Big
The Cardinals played a gutty game last night coming from behind to beat the Florida Marlins 9-6. Thanks to a pinch-hit homerun by So Taguchi, the Cardinals bats came alive in the seventh inning.
Cardinals Exit July Fighting
The Cardinals took two out of three from the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend. This West Coast swing was successful as St. Louis returns to Busch Stadium winning four out of six games.
Cardinals Back-Ups Keep the Pace
The Cardinals sit atop the NL Central with a record of 63-36. They do this despite Scott Rolen, Yadier Molina, Reggie Sanders and Larry Walker all on the DL. Some argue that this year’s Cardinal team is better than last year’s – and the bench may make that statement truer than ever.
Cardinals: Playing Hard to the Break
After splitting a four game series with the lowly Colorado Rockies, many Cardinal fans were worried about a West Coast road trip. This writer had hoped for a sweep, instead, the Cards came out and lost the first game of that series 7-0.
Cardinals Strengthening Division Lead
The Cardinals are 49-28 and open up a four game series against the struggling Colorado Rockies. A sweep would be a powerful statement. Not because arguably the best team in baseball would be beating up the worst team in the league – but because it is time for the Cards to go on a run; the type of run that sees the better team imposing its will on weaker opponents. As it stands, the national media still has hopes for the Cubs to make a run and win the NL Central.
Tony LaRussa; Quiet Leader Who Just Wins
People sometimes think that yelling and screaming are all a Major League manager can do. Thank god we still have managers like Tony Larussa. I'm sure he does his fair sharing of yelling but usually it's always behind closed doors.
Cards Return To Winning Ways
Friday night the Cardinals won convincingly, evening the series 1-1. Home cooking helped Jeff Suppan deliver one of his strongest performances of the season. He gave up 5 hits and one run while Jim Edmonds hit two two-run homeruns and So Taguchi joined the act, hitting two out of Busch Stadium. Suppan is now 7-6. Cardinal fans hope that Suppan is back on the winning pace he set last season, notching a 16-9 record.
Cardinals Down Devil Rays
After dropping 2 of 3 in Toronto, the Cardinals headed to Tampa Bay and completed a rare sweep. The lowly Devil Rays are hardly a franchise that strikes fear in any team, especially not the Cardinals.
Carpenter’s One Hitter Proves He’s Ace
Ironically, last year, Matt Morris was supposed to be the staff ace, but Chris Carpenter was clearly the best pitcher in the rotation and won 15 games before he was injured.
St. Louis Cardinals: Beating Up The AL East
By allowing Renteria to leave, his hefty salary freed up money to acquire three additional players -- improving the team dramatically over last season’s squad.
Cardinals v. Red Sox: Rivalry Surfacing
Up until last night, Boston’s return to Busch Stadium had been pretty civil. After last night’s ejections, tonight’s game should be fun to watch. It was pretty obvious that the Red Sox did not care for being on the other side of a drubbing that eventually ended in a 9-2 Cardinal victory.
Dominant Performance Upon The Champs
Matty Mo was the picture of efficiency, the complete opposite of his Game 2 World Series appearance that resulted in a 6-2 loss for the Redbirds. Morris pitched like a man possessed last night.
Cardinals v. Red Sox: Welcome Back?
This series has many St. Louisans excited about a rematch and hopefully what will be a much more competitive display than the Fall Classic provided in October.
St. Louis Cardinals: Middle Infielders Doing the Job
Much was made in the offseason about the loss of shortstop Edgar Renteria and second baseman Tony Womack. Both defected to East Coast media darling teams (Red Sox and Yankees) and larger paychecks. However, it seems that the detractors underestimated David Eckstein and completely overlooked Mark Grudzielanek.
Rolling Without Rolen
The Cardinals are grateful to be able to lose an All-Star like Rolen and still maintain momentum especially in a division that looks like a runaway for the last year’s NL Champions.

A historical increase from Cliff Lee couldn't compensate for the initial struggles of CC Sabathia and a historical decline from Travis Hafner.

Previewing The ALDS
The Angels and Red Sox will score a lot of runs, while the absence of a dominant starter for the White Sox could be the difference.
