9th May, 2008 - 7:48 pm
ESPN - San Diego released centerfielder Jim Edmonds on Friday after his average dropped to .178 and his defense starred to decline, according to The Associated Press.

The Padres acquired Edmonds from St. Louis in December, well aware that the 37-year-old was entering his twilight years. San Diego had the worst record in the Major Leagues entering Friday night's action.
