Yanks Give Fish Permission To Speak With Girardi
6th October, 2005 - 5:21 am
ESPN - The Yankees gave the Marlins permission to speak with New York bench coach Joe Girardi about their managerial opening.

Girardi will try to interview with Florida general manager Larry Beinfest during an off day in the playoffs. This was Girardi's first season as manager Joe Torre's bench coach.

"He's been great," Yankees GM Brian Cashman said after Wednesday night's 5-3 loss to the Angels in Game 2 of the AL Division Series. "He's a huge asset for us as a bench coach, and obviously he's a great baseball man. He's been running the game for years behind the plate and now obviously sitting next to Joe on the bench. So I'm not surprised I got a call about him. I have no idea who their candidates are and what their thinking is. My only involvement was to grant permission." [READ]
