Pitching Coach Chuck Hernandez has taken a lot of heat from both the fans and media.
"He's a very good pitching coach -- very good," Leyland said of Hernandez. "He's an excellent pitching coach -- as good as I've been around."
"Players deserve the credit when a team wins, and a manager accepts the responsibility when things aren't going well," he said. "The bottom line is, the game still belongs to the players. I'm working like we did in 2006."
The Tigers are 16-23 and occupy last place in the AL Central.
"People have to accept some accountability ourselves," Leyland said. "We've got some people who need to get better. I still think we're gonna get better and have a big year. But some guys have got to get better. That's as simple as it is." [READ] |
