| 22nd May, 2008 - 9:57 am | The New York Daily News - The Yankees are rewriting the 'Joba Rules' as they inch closer to bringing the electric reliever out of the bullpen and into the starting rotation, according to The New York Daily News.
Chamberlain pitched both the eighth and ninth inning in the team's win over the Orioles on Wednesday night.
"I am excited about the opportunity," Chamberlain said of the possible transition. "First and foremost though, we got to win ballgames from here on out. So tomorrow starts another day of getting my legs and getting back on mound to see what happens. And making sure we win a game."
Manager Joe Girardi insists that the plan isn't moving forward because of the team's struggles, but rather was the plan all along.
"This is the timetable that we had set," Girardi said while announcing the decision after last night's game. "It's going to take him awhile to get to where he can throw 100 pitches, but this is what we've had planned all along. This is what we talked about over the winter and in spring training, and you saw the first of it tonight." [READ] |
