The Hartford Courant - Yankees' Manager Joe Girardi sat down with Joba Chamberlain recently and asked the reliever if he was ready to move into the team's rotation, according to The Hartford Courant.

"I said to him, 'I'm not the manager, I'm your friend, what do you want to do?' " Girardi said Thursday. "I said, 'What would you tell your father?'...I went at him several different ways. His heart has to be in it."

Chamberlain convinced Girardi that he's ready to move into the starting rotation after beginning the season and his career in the team's bullpen.

"It's what I've been doing my whole life," said Chamberlain.

"I want to make this very clear for anybody who hasn't been paying attention," Hank Steinbrenner told Newsday. "A top reliever, a great reliever, whether a setup man or a closer, does you absolutely no good if you can't get to him. He's doing you no good if you don't have the lead." [READ]
