Kennedy's Injury Could Mean Joba Will Start Sooner

The New York Daily News - The strained lat muscle of Ian Kennedy could land Joba Chamberlain a starting rotation with the Yankees sooner than expected, according to The New York Daily News.

The reliever will likely take the next step towards the transition in relief of Andy Pettitte on Wednesday, but the loss of Kennedy could mean that Joba will make his first major league start as early as Tuesday.

Kennedy will be placed on the disabled list Wednesday, so New York will need a starter Tuesday at home against the Blue Jays.

Chamberlain is scheduled to throw 50-55 pitches on Wednesday against Baltimore.

"We'll have to have discussions, make some decisions, and talk about some moves," Manager Joe Girardi said. "I'm not saying it's definitely an option because I don't know what's going to happen tonight." [READ]
