Giambi Declines Invitation To HR Derby
13th July, 2008 - 5:15 pm
MLB.com - Yankees' first baseman Jason Giambi will not take part in Monday night's home run derby after declining an invitation from Major League Baseball, according to MLB.com.

"They asked me, but I said no," Giambi told MLB.com. "The only way I would have done it is if I was playing in the [All-Star] Game."

Giambi said earlier in the week that the only way he'd participate in the event was if the fans voted him in as the final player on the American League roster.

Evan Longoria, third baseman for the Rays, was awarded the final spot.

Giambi entered Sunday tied for sixth in the AL with 18 home runs and was batting .249 with 54 RBI's. Justin Morneau of the Twins accepted his Derby invitation on Sunday. [READ]
