| 14th July, 2008 - 5:06 pm | Andrew Perna/RealGM - Yankees' closer Mariano Rivera, in his fourteenth year with the team, obviously has a tremendous amount of respect for Yankee Stadium and all that it stands for as a baseball relic.
"The building itself is great, and the legacy that Yankee Stadium has it tremendous," Rivera said on Monday. "I don’t think there is any competition at all. The Stadium to me, it’s baseball."
Rivera also hopes to represent the Yankees well on Tuesday night with Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez right alongside him.
"That’s our house," he said of the trio protecting it. "And with it being the last year at Yankee Stadium it’s going to be very special for all three of us. Hopefully, we do well."
Rivera is 4-3 with 23 saves for New York this season. He has a 1.06 ERA with 50 strikeouts in 42.1 innings of work.
Always mentioned in the conversation when discussing the greatest closers in the game's history, Rivera would love to close out an American League victory if the opportunity presents itself.
"For me it’d be an honor. To have the opportunity to close this game in Yankee Stadium, which is going to be the last All-Star Game here, it’d be a privilege and an honor to do that," he added. [READ] |
