Pavano Wins In Return To The Mound

ESPN - Carl Pavano returned to New York's rotation on Saturday against Baltimore and provided the Yankees with five innings of solid pitching, according to The Associated Press.

The Yankees won 5-3, on the strength of a two-run home run by Jason Giambi in the third inning.

Pavano allowed seven hits and three runs in five innings while striking out five Orioles in the process.

Hideki Matsui homered in the seventh inning to extend New York's lead to 5-3. Brian Bruney, Jose Veras, and Mariano Rivera pitched four shutout innings, combining to allow just two hits, preserving Pavano's win. [READ]
