Carpenter Could Become Cardinals' Closer

ESPN - Cardinals' pitcher Chris Carpenter could be asked to close games for the team as he returns to the mound in limited relief duty, according to Associated Press.

"I'm looking forward to giving it to Carp," Manager Tony La Russa said Sunday. "We'd have some fun."

Carpenter injured his shoulder in his third start of the season coming off elbow surgery that limited him to one start last year.

The Cardinals decided to use the right-hander in the bullpen last week rather than wait for him to feel perfect with the season winding down. [READ]
