| 11th September, 2008 - 8:28 am | Los Angeles Times - The Angels clinched the first postseason berth in Major League Baseball on Wednesday with a 4-2 victory over the Yankees, according to Los Angeles Times.
The club enters Thursday's action with a 17 1/2 game-lead over the second-place Texas Rangers.
"You know what? This never gets old," outfielder Torii Hunter said. "You work so hard during the season, you grind it out, you play hard, you sacrifice your body on the field ... you have a right to celebrate."
The Angels did need some help to clinch on Wednesday, with the Mariners beating the Rangers an hour after the Angels finished beating the Yankees to make their AL West title official.
Their clinch date, Sept. 10, is the earliest in AL West history.
"Look at these guys, swimming and dancing and going crazy, and it's lasted a long time," said Hunter. "These guys don't want to go home. People think, you have a 17-game lead, why celebrate? We worked hard for this." [READ] |
