| 12th September, 2008 - 10:24 am | New York Post - Billy Wagner is a competitor, but he knows that he has played his last game as a member of the Mets, according to New York Post.
A day after Tommy John surgery, that will keep him out for at least a year, Wagner spoke of the Mets in past tense.
"I've played my last day as a Met, that's the way it goes," Wagner said.
Teammates Moises Alou and Scott Schoeneweis visited Wagner in the hospital, and Schoeneweis has offered to drive Wagner to Shea Stadium down the stretch so the closer can be a part of the Mets playoff run.
"It's something that will just show I'm thinking about the team," Wagner said. "I'm there for them, hoping they get a ring."
Wagner has 385 career saves.
"It's going to be hard to find that team that gives you a chance to get 400 saves and gives you a shot to win a championship when you're coming back from major surgery," said Wagner, who wants to remain a closer. "There are not going to be too many people beating down my door." [READ] |
