Should Mets Give Manuel An Extension?

Newsday - Jerry Manuel has certainly gotten the job done in New York over the last three months in relief of Willie Randolph, and Newsday's Wallace Matthews believes the manager deserves an extension.

Manuel has lost his starting rightfielder for a chunk of the season, his No. 2 starter for a month, and now his closer for the rest of the season.

But, the Mets have a three-game lead over the Phillies with seventeen games to play.

Three months ago to the day, New York was 7 1/2 games behind Philadelphia in the NL East. [READ]
