14th September, 2008 - 2:52 pm
Andrew Perna/RealGM - Derek Jeter tied Lou Gehrig for the most hits ever at Yankee Stadium on Sunday afternoon with a fifth inning home run off rookie pitcher David Price.

Jeter, who was 6-for-7 on Saturday in two games, recorded a hit in each of his first three at-bats on Sunday. He had a bunt single in the first, a double in the second and the record-tying home run in the fifth.

The home run, to right centerfield, was the seventh pitch Price threw in the inning and the first run he allowed in the Major Leagues.

Jeter, who has 1,269 hits at Yankee Stadium in his career, has more than enough time to set his own record with seven more games at the Stadium before it closes. [READ]
