| 14th September, 2008 - 10:25 pm | Andrew Perna/RealGM - Cubs starter Carlos Zambrano threw a no-hitter against the Astros on Sunday night, striking out ten batters and walking just one.
Zambrano threw 110 pitches, and received offensive support from his teammates early on.
Zambrano got Humberto Quintero and Jose Castro to groundout to shortstop Ryan Theriot, before striking out Darin Erstad in the bottom of the ninth.
It had been twelve days since Zambrano last pitched for the Cubs because of shoulder discomfort.
Alfonso Soriano led the game off with a home run, and Chicago scored four more runs in the top of the third to give Zambrano a healthy 5-0 lead.
Michael Bourn drew the only walk of the game by Zambrano, who improved to 14-5 on the season with the win.
The game was played at a neutral site, Miller Park in Milwaukee, because of damage to Minute Maid Park by Hurricane Ike.
The no-hitter was the first for the Cubs since 1972, and the second in the Major Leagues this season (Jon Lester versus Kansas City). [READ] |
