| 15th September, 2008 - 10:57 pm | Andrew Perna/RealGM - The Boston Red Sox knocked the Tampa Bay Rays around, 13-4, on Monday night to move into a tie for first-place in the AL East.
David Ortiz hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning to give Boston the lead for good, as Daisuke Matsuzaka baffled Tampa Bay's hitters.
Matsuzaka threw 101 pitches, going five innings to earn his seventeenth win of the season. He struck out seven Rays, while walking two and allowing just one run.
Scott Kazmir struggled for Tampa Bay, lasting just three innings. He allowed nine runs on six hits and four walks in the loss.
The Rays held a five-game lead over the Red Sox in the division on Sept. 1.
The teams will battle twice more, on Tuesday and Wednesday, before entering the final ten games of the regular season. [READ] |
