Matsui To Have Surgery, Done For Season

ESPN - Hideki Matsui will have surgery on his left knee on Monday rather than travel with the Yankees to Toronto, according to Associated Press.

Earlier this season, after he was sidelined from June 23 to Aug. 18 because of inflammation in the knee, Matsui said he wouldn't have surgery until after the Yankees were eliminated from the playoff race.

A loss or a Boston win will mathematically knock the Yankees out of the American League playoff picture.

Matsui was 1-for-3 with a single and a run Sunday night in New York's 7-3 victory over Baltimore, the final game played at Yankee Stadium. [READ]
