Philadelphia Makes History With NLDS Win
5th October, 2008 - 7:04 pm
Andrew Perna/RealGM - The Phillies accomplished something on Sunday that they haven't ever before in their 125-year history.

Philadelphia's 6-2 win over Milwaukee on Sunday, completing a four-game series victory, gave them their first-ever win in a divisional playoff series.

The Phillies had appeared in the NLDS twice prior to this season's matchup with the Brewers. They were swept by the Marlins in 2007 and were defeated in five games by the Expos in 1981.

The divisional series was added to postseason play permanently in 1995, with an extra series added in 1981 because of a strike-shortened season.

In their history, the Phillies have now won five playoff series, with an overall record of 5-9 in their fourteen postseason sets.

Philadelphia has made six appearances in the National League Championship Series, with a record of 3-3, including a 1-2 mark against the Dodgers in three NLCS matchups. [READ]
