Diamondbacks Place Lyon On 15-Day DL

AZCentral - Taking the "rather be safe than sorry" approach, the Arizona Diamondbacks placed closer Brandon Lyon on the 15-day disabled list following Wednesday's game. Lyon is suffering from a strained flexor mass in his right elbow.

"I felt pretty good, but I felt if I let one go, it might actually irritate it a little bit," Lyon said. "I definitely want to be out there, but I think it's a good idea right now to just take these days and strengthen it up."

"To run him out there potentially tomorrow or the next day without having pitched in that long, and bring him in the ninth inning when he's not 100 percent sure, this gives us time to make sure he's 100 percent," Melvin said.

Lyon was tied for the major league lead in saves with 13 before being placed on the DL. [READ]
