| 8th October, 2008 - 5:20 pm | Chicago Tribune - The Cubs could end up putting Jeff Samardzija in the rotation at the beginning of the 2009 season if Rich Harden isn't healthy enough to take the mound.
"I'll spend some time talking to Larry [Rothschild, pitching coach], whatever is best for [Samardzija] and his future, and for the Cubs," GM Jim Hendry said. "He, obviously, did a very credible job, probably a year earlier than we anticipated. At the same time he's not fully developed with command of his three pitches. Starting could help him develop that."
Either way, Samardzija is expected to make the team.
"We won't hand him a job. Let's see how it lines up by January, who you have, who you have kept, who you have lost. Then we'll try to fit him in the role that fits the team first and him second," Hendry said. [READ] |
