Rays Honor Fan Suspended By School For Mohawk

MLB.com - The Tampa Bay Rays honored a 12-yard old fan on Saturday after hearing the child was suspended by his school for sporting a mohawk like many players on his favorite team.

"The kid got punished for being a Rays' fan," said Jonny Gomes, who contacted Zachary Sharples' family when he heard of the story. "What's wrong with that?"

Gomes acquired field passes for Zachary and his father for Game 2 against the Red Sox.

"Keep the mohawk, man," right-hander Andy Sonnanstine said, giving Sharples a fist bump.

"Hopefully, we've got a Rays' fan for life -- a Jonny Gomes fan for life," Gomes said. "To make the kid's day -- maybe make the kid's year -- is awesome." [READ]
