Rockies Took Serious Look At Longoria In 2007 Draft

Denver Post - Rockies' management thought hard about selecting Evan Longoria with the No. 2 pick in the 2006 draft, but eventually decided upon right-handed starting pitcher Greg Reynolds, leaving Longoria available for Tampa Bay with the next pick.

"Absolutely we had interest in Longoria," Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd said Wednesday. "It was much talked about, and we went back and forth, between taking a pitcher and taking a position player."

Because the Rockies already had Garrett Atkins and Ian Stewart lined up to play third for years to come, they passed on Longoria.
