Cardinals Buy Out Option On Mulder

ESPN - The Cardinals have reportedly parted with left-handed starter Mark Mulder, informing him that they will not pick up his option for 2009.

Mulder was sidelined by shoulder injuries over the past two seasons and couldn't regain the form that saw him win 16 games in 2005. He will receive a $1.5 million buyout.

"We had very high expectations that Mark would come back and throw to the capabilities he had when we acquired him from Oakland," Cardinals' GM John Mozeliak said. "That didn't happen." [READ]
