Was Rollins Hit In The Ninth?
24th October, 2008 - 7:49 am
MLB.com - Philadelphia's Jimmy Rollins appeared to have a pitch graze his jersey in the ninth inning on Thursday night, but it was called a ball.

With Carlos Ruiz already on second after a leadoff double, a pitch by Tampa Bay's David Price grazed the jersey of Rollins but was called a ball in Game 2 of the World Series on Thursday night.

Home-plate Kerwin Danley apparently couldn't hear the ball hit the jersey of Rollins.

"He couldn't hear it," Rollins said. "[With] 46,000 people screaming, it probably would be tough to hear."

Rollins refused to use the missed call as an excuse.

"He missed it," Rollins said. "That's baseball; that's the beauty of sports. Sometimes they're going to get calls right and sometimes they're going to get calls wrong."

Rollins popped out to short soon after, recording the first out of the inning instead of setting the Phillies up with men on first and second and no outs.

Philadelphia lost 4-2 to Tampa Bay a few minutes later. [READ]
