Report: Marlins Payroll Could Surpass $40M

South Florida Sun-Sentinel - The payroll of the Marlins hasn't hit $40 million since 2005, but one report indicates that it could surpass that mark this winter.

Owner Jeffrey Loria, the source said, has authorized a payroll of up to $40 million, as they aim to keep all of their 16 remaining arbitration-eligible players.

Such an increase over the $22 million the team spent in 2008 would represent an 82 percent hike. [READ]
