Pursuit Of Peavy Could Alter Cubs' Plans

Chicago Tribune - If the Cubs decide to pursue pitcher Jake Peavy, they could end up missing out on re-signing Kerry Wood and Ryan Dempster.

If Chicago is willing to spend top dollar to sign another top-level starter, Dempster could re-consider signing for below market value.

The Cubs have exclusive negotiating rights with their own free agents through Thursday, and are believed to have offered Dempster $50 million over four years. [READ]
