Cashman Will Try To Close Sabathia In Person

Newsday - Brian Cashman will fly out to meet with CC Sabathia in an attempt to close the ace left-hander on a free-agent deal with the Yankees. Cashman is scheduled to meet with Sabathia over the weekend.

The Yankees made Sabathia an offer for the richest contract ever for a pitcher at approximately $140 million. But since then, there has been eerie silence from camp CC.

It is believed that Sabathia prefers the National League and/or the West Coast as his baseball home. But the Yankees remain optimistic that they will eventually get their man given the relative weakness of competing offers from other teams.

The Brewers have made Sabathia an offer that falls around $40 million short of the Yankees' bid and few expect him to leave that much cash on the table.

Meanwhile, the Braves are inching closer to agreeing to terms with AJ Burnett, who was another pitching target of the Yankees entering this off-season. [READ]
