Baseball's off-season begins in earnest today when Ricciardi and his peers gather in Indian Wells, Calif., for baseball's annual general manager's meetings, but already this has been an off-season unlike many others.
For Ricciardi, who is about to dip into the remaining $160-million (U.S.) of a three-year, $210-million payroll guarantee from ownership, it's the first chance he's had to play the high roller -- hence the interest from Dan Lozano, the agent for iconic New York Mets catcher and free-agent Piazza.
