Brewers Said To Be Increasing Deal For CC
8th December, 2008 - 1:16 am
SI.com - The Milwaukee Brewers are not afraid to go toe to toe, if not dollar for dollar, with the deep-pocket New York Yankees. Sabathia has told friends he expects the Brewers to increase their five-year, $100 million offer in the coming days.

Brewers' GM Doug Melvin will meet with Sabathia's agent at the winter meetings and either during that meeting or shortly after, Melvin will signal that the Brewers are ready to improve their initial bid for Sabathia.

Offering Sabathia a sixth year is one way the Brewers could make their deal more attractive.

Sabathia's agents have said that he would prefer to play for a team in California if "all else is equal." Sabathia is originally from Vallejo, California.

Two other teams have reportedly made offers to Sabathia but the identity of those suitors remains unknown. [READ]
