Scout: We'd Trade Our Entire Draft For Strasburg
9th March, 2009 - 1:07 pm
Seattle Post-Intelligencer - The Mariners swept the A's to finish out 2008 and cost themselves a chance to draft Stephen Strasburg out of San Diego State with the top overall pick.

One scout said the 2009 class was "about 15-20 players deep," and after that it was a "dice game full of risk and medium reward." He said the Mariners, picking second, have the toughest pick in the entire draft, likely choosing their consolation prize after Strasburg is taken by the Washington Nationals.

"I was at his first start and his start last night," the scout said after Strasburg fanned 18 versus nationally ranked San Diego. "His slider is as good as I have ever seen at this level, and his fastball has tons of life and tails into right-handers. He's nasty; I think if it were allowed, we'd trade our entire draft to get just Strasburg."
