| 10th June, 2009 - 8:17 am | New York Post - Johnny Damon wants the Yankees to get to the postseason, in part, to prove former manager Joe Torre wrong.
Torre's book, "The Yankee Years," fired up Damon because of the criticism he received.
"It really did," Damon told The New York Post, "because it was a private matter. This game is a team game. Me and Jason [Giambi] weren't the reason we were losing. If [Torre] feels that way, then, oh well, but I'll tell you one thing, me and Jason were the reason why we made the playoffs [in 2007]. We made that push. As soon as I got healthy, this team got going."
Torre wrote that the team's "old guard" asked the Yankees to get rid of Damon. The outfielder says that it hurt because he was playing hurt for his manager.
"You don't feel good about it," he admitted. "I've moved on. I'm playing with a group I enjoy playing with. I'm enjoying baseball now more than ever. I think I've proven people wrong." [READ] |
