| 5th November, 2009 - 12:47 am | New York Times - The New York Yankees won their 27th World Series, defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 in Game 6 on Wednesday evening. For the Yankees, this was their first World Series since 2000 when they defeated the Mets.
Hideki Matsui earned the M.V.P. award by hitting .615 (8 for 13) with three homers and eight R.B.I.
Matsui collected six RBIs in the game, including a second inning home run.
Andy Pettitte started and got the win, lasting five and two-thirds while allowing all three of Philadelphia's runs.
Mariano Rivera recorded the final five outs, including the final groundout of Shane Victorino to Robinson Cano at second base. [READ] |
