| 3rd August, 2007 - 12:43 pm | New York Post - After a 13-9 loss to the Chicago White Sox yesterday that dropped the Yankees eight games behind the division-leading Red Sox, captain Derek Jeter was conceding nothing.
"[When people ask] 'Are you guys trying to win the wild card?,' I say, 'No,' " Jeter said. "We're trying to win the division."
"I think we're playing very well," said Jeter. "We have 50-something games left. Obviously we're in a little hole and there's no time to take any day off. We have to continue to play well. If we do, I like our chances."
Jeter seldom says anything controversial, but he clearly was irked by comments Gary Sheffield recently made on HBO's "Real Sports." Sheffield suggested Jeter, whose father is African-American and mother is Irish and German, isn't really black.
"The African-American population took a hit because now if you're biracial, it doesn't count," the captain said. [READ] |
