Clemens Says He's OK To Face Mariners

Newsday - Joe Torre said Roger Clemens told him after yesterday's game that he is OK to face the Mariners this afternoon in the opener of a key three-game series. Clemens has blisters on his right foot and is said to have an elbow issue.

Torre said Mike Mussina remains on standby in the event Clemens arrives "and can't dial it up," he said. Whoever starts will oppose Felix Hernandez (10-7, 4.08 ERA).

Clemens tested his ailments in a throwing session Saturday. Torre said Clemens' biggest issue is the blisters; the manager has danced around questions about whether he is dealing with inflammation in his right elbow. [READ]
