Cashman: No Guaranteed Return For Coaches In 2008

Newsday - Joe Torre's departure from the Yankees could have a domino effect on the coaching staff.

Because most managers have at least some latitude to pick their coaches, and none of the Yankees' coaches is signed beyond this season, there could be mass departures there.

General manager Brian Cashman said by phone Friday night, "I've made them aware that I'm not able to guarantee them positions until we have a manager."

Yankees third-base coach Larry Bowa, also reached Friday night, said, "I guess since Joe got fired or didn't accept the proposal, Cash told all of us, basically, 'Do what's in the best interest of you. I can't say, yes, you'll be back. I can't say you're not going to be back. You did a good job and everything. I just can't make any promises.'" [READ]
