Yankees' Hopes Of Acquiring Santana On Life Support

ESPN - With the Monday night deadline set forth by Hank Steinbrenner passing, the Twins and Yankees have gotten nowhere in trade talks surrounding Johan Santana.

"I want to get it done by tonight, one way or another," Steinbrenner said, according to The Associated Press.

According to baseball officials aware of the discussions, the Twins again asked for pitcher Ian Kennedy Monday night and the Yankees immediately declined the proposal.

Joba Chamberlain, Alan Horne, Austin Jackson and Jose Tabata have also been designated by the Yankees as off limits.

The teams had not yet met in person as of late Monday night.

Officials from other clubs said some in the Yankee front office continue to agonize over the inclusion of Hughes in their offer.

"I'm definitely fully vested in a lot of the young talent. You get attached to it," GM Brian Cashman told the AP. [READ]
