| 6th January, 2008 - 6:37 pm | Newsnet 5 - After publicly exchanging harsh words since the release of the Mitchell Report last month, pitcher Roger Clemens and his former trainer Brian McNamee spoke via telephone Friday, New York Newsday reported.
It was unclear who initiated the call, but a person close to the situation told Newsday the conversation was emotional.
In the Mitchell Report, a document detailing former Sen. George Mitchell's findings on steroids in baseball, McNamee said he injected the seven-time Cy Young winner with steroids while he played for the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees. Clemens has denied McNamee's claims and will state his case during an appearance on "60 Minutes" Sunday night. In an excerpt from Clemens' interview with Mike Wallace, the pitcher claimed McNamee injected him only with lidocaine and vitamin B-12.
Lawyers for McNamee said they will consider filing a lawsuit against Clemens if he calls the trainer a liar during the "60 Minutes" interview.
On Friday, both Clemens and McNamee were asked by Congress to testify before the House Committe on Oversight and Government Reform on Jan. 16. Newsday reported that a person close to the situation suggested Clemens could file a lawsuit against McNamee before that date in hopes that it would excuse him from the hearing. [READ] |
