Phillies Come To Terms With Lidge, Madson
18th January, 2008 - 8:59 am
Philadelphia Inquirer - Brad Lidge and Ryan Madson are in the fold.

The Phillies announced yesterday that they had avoided salary arbitration with Lidge and Madson. Lidge, who is the team's new closer, agreed to a one-year, $6.35 million contract. Madson, who went 2-2 with a 3.05 ERA and two stints on the disabled list last season, agreed to a one-year, $1.4 million deal.

Both contracts include performance bonuses.

Lidge, 31, was 5-3 with a 3.36 ERA for Houston last year. The Phillies acquired him in a multiplayer trade in November.

"Our goal is always the same," said Ruben Amaro Jr., the Phillies' assistant general manager. "We try to come to what we feel is an equitable deal, and we thought we did with both those guys." [READ]
