Damon Nearly Retired Last Spring

SI.com - Johnny Damon very nearly retired before the 2007 season.

"I was just exhausted .... Burnt out,'' Damon told SI.com Tuesday. "(Retirement) definitely crossed my mind.''

The Yankees explained his absence during the early part of the spring last year as "personal reasons."

He would have left behind the final three seasons of a $52 million deal. [READ]
