Smoltz Thinks Hamels Needs To Not Worry About Contract

Philadelphia Inquirer - John Smoltz, who has made upwards of $130 million over his career, thinks Cole Hamels should focus on pitching instead o his contract.

"It happens to everybody," Smoltz said Tuesday. "Just pitch. It's hard enough to get hitters out without being upset."

In 1991, Smoltz began the season with a 2-11 start after not properly handling his contract renewal.

"It was the greatest life lesson I ever learned," he said. "I let it affect me in an adverse way. Never again. When you look back over the years, you see it as part of the process. So be it." [READ]
