With the entire Yankee dugout on its feet to watch the team's latest free-agent signing, Crystal worked the count to 3-1 before striking out swinging, according to an ESPN.com report.
After taking ball 1 high, Crystal fouled off strike 1, hitting a bouncer along the first-base line. He took ball 2 inside and ball 3 high before Maholm came back with a pair of inside fastballs that Crystal swung and missed on for the game-opening strikeout.
