Could Boston Deal For Harden Or Blanton?
1st April, 2008 - 10:09 pm
The Boston Herald - The Red Sox could be interested in dealing for either Rich Harden or Joe Blanton of the Athletics, according to the Boston Herald.

"His stuff is as good as anybody in baseball," said Terry Francona of Harden. "He works hard. He just hasn’t been able to stay out there."

Oakland shipped Dan Haren, Mark Kotsay and Nick Swisher elsewhere this winter in an attempt to cut payroll. Billy Beane resisted trading both Harden and Blanton, but that could change if the Athletics fall out of playoff contention as expected.

RealGM Note: The A's hold a team option on Harden's contract worth $7 million in 2009. If Harden stays relatively healthy, there is a great likelihood that the option will be picked up even if they have no intention of having him pitch in Oakland. Picking up the option could effectively put the A's in a sign-and-trade scenario. [READ]
