New York Yankees left-handed pitcher Andy Pettitte was outstanding Thursday night against the Kansas City Royals. He went 6.2 innings, giving up only five hits and one run.

Pettitte relied on a four-seam fastball at 88-89 mph which he had good command of. He looked to work outside to most of the hitters and always wanted to get ahead with the fastball. He showed an average curveball in the low 70s and his patent cutter at around 83 mph. The cutter wasn’t dominant by any means and he really didn’t try to challenge hitters with it.

He had only six swings and misses and relied mainly on his baseball IQ of working the count and having solid control throughout the night. The identity of Andy Pettitte has changed some, but the results are very similar. [READ]
