Scout: A's Should Make Harden Closer

MLB.com - Oakland starter Rich Harden can't seem to remain healthy enough to pitch over several innings, and a scout believes that the best thing would be for the team to make him their closer, according to MLB.com.

"I don't understand why they didn't make the switch this offseason," says an AL scout. "It's obvious that the kid takes good care of his body, but it's been failing him for whatever reason for a long time now. I'd stick him in the bullpen. It'd keep the number of throws he makes down, and all he'd need if he was throwing one inning is that fastball and changeup, so there'd be less stress on his arm."

"You aren't getting much out of him as a starter, anyway. He could be the next Mariano [Rivera] if they ever made him a closer," the scout added. [READ]
