Angels Collect High Picks From Free Agent Losses

The Angels collected multiple high draft picks because of the compensation they'll receive from losing free agents Mark Teixeira, Francisco Rodriguez and Jon Garland.

The Angels will have two first-round picks, at Nos. 23 and 24.

Teixeira Still Carrying Angels Bag

Mark Teixeira arrived to the Yankees' Spring Training facility on Tuesday to begin his workouts, but he was carrying some baggage with him.

Teixeira, despite signing a $180 million contract this past December, was seen carrying an Angels bag with his gear.

Fuentes Not Looking To Replace K-Rod

Brian Fuentes has filled the role of closer that was left vacant by Francisco Rodriguez, but he claims that he isn't replacing anyone.

"I'm not here to replace anybody," Fuentes said. "What makes good pitchers, especially relief pitchers, is the ability to not let external things matter. I don't let external things bother me.

"There's always going to be comparisons. Obviously, Frankie's a great pitcher. It's going to happen regardless. I'm here to help this team win by closing the door in the ninth. That's about it.

"Comparisons are for fans. Fantasy leaguers might have a good time with it, but players don't get caught up in that stuff."
