The Angels and Marlins are both talking to the Padres about reliever Heath Bell.
Bell has converted 25 of 26 save opportunities this season for San Diego. The closer joked that a personal decision may have been the kiss of death.
"We just signed a one-year lease on a home in San Diego," Bell said Thursday.
"Before signing the lease, I didn't give a second thought to the possibility of being traded. But as soon as I signed the lease, I'm thinking, 'Oh, no.' "

Instead of meeting Toronto's humongous price for Roy Halladay, the Angels could pursue a second-tier starter such as Cincinnati's Bronson Arroyo or Aaron Harang, Arizona's Jon Garland or Seattle's Jarrod Washburn.
Late-inning relief is also desired, but the competition remains fierce for the likes of San Diego's Heath Bell, Oakland's Michael Wuertz, Baltimore's George Sherrill, Toronto's Scott Downs, Jason Frasor and Brandon League, and Arizona's Chad Qualls.
"There are a lot of teams looking for a lot of the same pieces," Reagins said. "It's a challenge."

The Angels remain in trade talks with a number of teams as Friday's non-waiver trade deadline approaches.
"I've had extensive conversations with several teams," general manager Tony Reagins said Tuesday. "If there was a match, we'd have a deal done. Right now, there hasn't been a fit."
The Angels have shown interest in Toronto's Roy Halladay.
According to reports, the Blue Jays asked the Angels for shortstop Erick Aybar, a big league starter like Jered Weaver or Joe Saunders, infield prospect Brandon Wood and a top prospect like pitcher Trevor Reckling or outfielder Peter Bourjos.
